Our students take home a lot of art they’ve made at school, and it’s always hard for parents to decide what to keep and what not to. Lara Cannon had the same problem when her two children were here—and she’s the art teacher! She’s since found a solution, a website called Artsonia that creates an online digital archive of students’ work.
“I learned about Artsonia when a friend invited me to be a part of her daughter's Artsonia ‘fan club.’ Her art teacher had uploaded photos of her work, and I was able to see them and leave comments (which her parents had to approve before they went public). I thought our school community might also like to see what we’re working in the art room and be able to share it with friends and family.”
Lara takes photos of her students’ creations and uploads them to the Artsonia site. She emailed parents a code to sign up for an account, which gives them access to photos of their child’s art projects on the site. They can also order keepsakes based on their child’s creations, like prints and portfolio books. (Artsonia gives 20 percent of sales back to the school for art supplies.)
To protect our students’ privacy, we can’t publish links to their online portfolios, but here’s a page on the Artsonia site that displays examples of student work from other schools.
